How to pick your outfit, jewelry and shoes for your wedding.

People say that the time period of your wedding is like a fairytale, but I think ‘drama’ is the best word to describe it. Don’t be disheartened by that because dramas aren’t not bad, at the same time if you lose your shoe on the day of the wedding; it’s not a fairytale, you aren’t Cinderella, you are probably high on spirits (pun intended). Either way, I am sure you are flipping through magazines (if you’re from the 70’s) or surfing the net constantly looking for new styles of dresses, jewelry and are looking forward to being the most chic bride out there. If that is the case, this article is for you and probably your mom who wants to know what’s going on. Starting from top to bottom you will read about attire, jewelry and shoes.

“Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury”

- Coco Chanel

Let’s talk about attire

The main lady herself said it once and said it right. The duration of a wedding usually lasts around six hours for a guest who attends the ceremony and the reception, but for the wedding retinue a wedding is around sixteen hours. SIXTEEN HOURS! That’s no joke. Therefore, when selecting the dress you want to wear think of how it will make you feel around twelve hours down the line. Remember this, trends come and go but if you’re in pain and unable to enjoy your own wedding what is even the point? Of course, the writer understands that you want to look your best and in line with the trend. Remember when puffy dresses were in? People spent so much of money on those but now, they are worth next to nothing. So, when you are designing an outfit, play between the lines of the ‘current trend’ and ‘timeless elegance’ like what Kate Middleton did. Her dress was like a modern version of Grace Kelly’s iconic wedding dress from 1956. Even if it’s a traditional outfit you are leaning towards, you can make it your own with the materials you use. There is a wide range of material you can choose from now, so you can put your own spin on it as you please. And always ALWAYS opt for something comfortable, nothing that will suffocate you or leave bruises on your body because the only things you should take from your wedding are happy memories.

Moving on to Jewelry

Jewelry in the writer’s opinion is like salt in a meal; if you have too much of it, it’s not pleasant and if you have too little it’ll reduce your pressure (pun intended again), but it won’t be very tasteful, therefore you need the perfect amount. How do you know the perfect amount? Well, if the outfit is loud with a lot of bling, your jewelry can be comparatively simple and if your outfit is a simple elegant dress you can use jewelry to bling it up with either loud accessories or a dainty one. Either way no one likes too much of salt.

If the shoe fits…

Didn’t someone once say that shoes were a lady’s best friend? Well, they weren’t far off because like best friends, they make you feel good and look good but if you hangout with the wrong one’s they’d end up hurting you. Keep in mind that this is your wedding we are on about so wear something that looks good but most importantly feels comfortable! Those tall high heels will only look good if you look happy in them, but if you’re miserable in them is it worth it?

Finally, try to remember that it’s all about a celebration of love and that the rest comes with it. It’s not the other way around. Do what you would do at any party: have fun. Materialistic things lasts that day or even a day or two after that but memories are for a lifetime. If you feel like things are not going according to plan, don’t worry about that because something is going to go a little outside your plan- but that’s a whole different topic which requires a glass of bubbly for the writer and the reader. Overall, your friends and family will help you and so will your vendors. Take advantage of all the attention and help offered because it is going to be a long joyful day; therefore, smile.
